Apples and Snakes presents

451 - City

at NST City Studio

1 April / 3 June

Apples and Snakes, England’s leading organisation for performance poetry and spoken word, bring the best local, national and international spoken word artists to Southampton, from stand-up poets to live literature to spoken word theatre.

WRITE A NOTE Open Mic takes over 451 City to bring their hand-picked special guests and a showcase of Southampton poets as part of NST’s Make it SO season.

Featuring...

SIDDHARTHA BOSE
Dubbed one of the ‘ten rising stars of British poetry’ (The Times), Siddhartha’s poetry appears in the anthology Voice Recognition: 21 poets for the 21st Century and he has published two collections with Penned in the Margins. Sid has performed internationally.

REBECCA TANTONY
Rebecca is a driven to understand the messy and wild human experience in greater depth. She has published two collections with Burning Eye Books and has a third launching in 2019. Her writing has been described as ‘mesmerising’ by the Guardian’.

Plus WRITE A NOTE poets:

ANITA FOXHALL is a Southampton based poet, she is the host and organizer of Write a Note. Anita's poems are often stories and life observations. She spends her days with numbers and her evenings with words.

DAVE HUBBLE publishes, performs, hosts and programmes. He likes writing about sewers, pencils, airports and endoscopes. He runs the ‘Write Side of the Tracks’ poetry night in Eastleigh. He knows science.

DAMIAN O’VITCH likes words: simple, complicated, alone, together, from different languages, ideas and cultures. He lives near Tea & Biscuits with a dictionary, a thesaurus, a pencil and a blank page.

DANIELLE GONTIER mixes lyrical imagery with urban rhythms. Inspired by personal events, she is fascinated at looking beyond the obvious, delving deeper than what we perceive on the surface.

MATT L T SMITH is a Barbican Young Poet, "hand-picked by Joelle Taylor herself" for the SLAMbassadors 2018 Showcase, has worked with the BBC Symphony Choir and Boy Blue Entertainment.

STEPHEN RIPPER MIZZEN. A poet of unusual measure. Between maverick and un-medicated madness, SM Ripper lived through his own Dionysian storm to start trying to ruggedly claw his way back to something akin to wholesomeness.

ISSA FARRAH: Imagist beat delivered percussive metaconcrete pieces from Earth.

DUNCAN GREEN: Honest, insightful, vulnerable performance poet seeks open minded audience to share tales of psychology, technology and life experience with. Royal Albert Hall loved him. So did Lisbon. You will too.

Hosted by RICKY TART.

Please note: There is NO open mic at this 451 City. Just come along and enjoy the show.
