Last week we promised to introduce you to the people who make NST what it is and today it’s the turn of Programming and Producing.
Responsible for every production you see on our stage, bringing must-see shows from around the country (and the world) and working hard to produce co-productions to be proud of, learn more about who they are and what they get up to here.
Katie Shahatit, Head of Producing & Programming
Katie joined the team in 2019. As Head of Department, she produces work that is performed on our main stage and programmes all of our spaces across drama, musicals, dance, comedy, circus, children’s work and much more.
Fun fact: Katie lived in San Francisco for a year while studying abroad!
Favourite show at NST so far: Our 2019 Christmas show CinderELLA – a modern twist on the classic fairytale.
What to watch out for next season: The Merchant of Venice starring Tracy Ann Oberman.
Holly Mitchell, Creative Programmes Assistant
Holly works across artist development, community and youth theatre, focusing on the best way to engage these groups with activity at the theatre while encouraging them to grow and evolve through the arts.
Fun fact: Holly was born in New Zealand and spent the first ten years of her life living in Southern California, just a thirty-minute drive from Los Angeles!
Favourite show at NST so far: Billionaire Boy – Holly loved hearing the songs for the first time and how truly Christmassy it was.
What to watch out for next season: The Merchant of Venice! Holly is excited to see a feminine twist on the classic tale.
Natalie Bell, Programming Assistant
Natalie assists the team in programming our wide range of visiting shows including drama, dance, comedy, talks, music and children’s theatre.
Fun fact: Natalie once played a French chef on a steam ship, and didn’t know French!
Favourite show at NST so far: SS Mendi: Dancing the Death Drill, a vital local WW1 story that had been hidden from the history books.
What to watch out for next season: Noughts and Crosses! Natalie loved the book and the new BBC series and looks forward to seeing it live on our stage.
Natalie Garces-Bovett, Assistant Producer
Natalie works on all of our in-house productions across casting, contracting, organising events and keeping to budgets.
Fun fact: Natalie used to have a guinea pig called Boris who was also blonde and windswept!
Favourite show at NST so far: opening The Shadow Factory and NST City at the same time.
What to watch out for next season: The Merchant of Venice! It will be fantastic.
Tracey Cruickshank, Community Engagement Producer
Tracey is one of NST’s longest-serving members of staff. In her role, she produces projects and opportunities for the Southampton community to engage with. Ranging from providing tickets to shows, leading workshops and skills development sessions, to performing in a production, Tracey’s role is varied and interesting.
Fun fact: Tracey was born in Adelaide, South Australia and moved to England when she was 13.
Favourite show(s) at NST so far: Billionaire Boy and CinderELLA, as well as SS Mendi and The Shadow Factory which featured a community company.
