You may have noticed a few changes if you’ve been to Nuffield Theatre in the last few weeks: our foyer has had a facelift and we have a brand new logo. Our new website, nstheatres.co.uk, will be coming soon as we’re rebranding as NST, Nuffield Southampton Theatres. The name change recognises the highly-anticipated addition of a brand-new venue in the heart of Southampton, which opens in autumn 2017.
As you may know, NST will be the operating company of the north building in Southampton’s new performing arts venue - Studio 144 - in Guildhall Square, which will include a flexible 447 seat main house theatre, a 135 seat studio, screening facilities, rehearsal and workshop spaces, and a café bar and restaurant.
Taking over the new city centre venue doesn’t mean the end of our current venue at the University of Southampton’s Highfield Campus, we will continue to run this as well. So to distinguish between our two venues we are introducing NST City and NST Campus to reflect the location of each of our spaces and make it easier for our audience to engage with our work across two venues.
We’re going to be running both venues, and working hard to make sure that our programme offers something for everyone. We want our audiences to feel at home in both our buildings. In the lead up to opening the new city centre venue we’ll will be hosting some community tours of the new spaces, with opportunities to have conversations about how the community and local artists can get involved with the building and with NST, across all our spaces.
