Nuffield Southampton Theatres (NST) have announced that they are inviting applications from Southampton and Hampshire artists and companies to perform in February and March at NST City, as part of NST’s 2019 Spring studio theatre season Make It So. This season will run alongside NST’s sell-out our revival of Howard Brenton’s The Shadow Factory, which tells the Second World War local story of how the Spitfire was built when the factory was destroyed in bombing raids.
Sam Hodges, Director at Nuffield Southampton Theatres said, “One of the best indicators of a vibrant arts ecology in a city is one in which artists, curators and producers are generating their own work, their own events, their own networks. We take our responsibility as a funded arts organisation very seriously but we also believe in creating a sustainable future by schemes like this – designed to build on the city’s heritage as a city of makers and industry and equipping them with the tools to carry on making into the future”
Applications for the Make It So season are invited for two categories; work in progress and finished shows. Each confirmed piece will get 2 performances on different days. The artist or at least one member of the company must live or be based in Southampton or Hampshire and be responsible for producing the show. Applications are also welcome for music, spoken word, dance as well as theatre. Successful applicants will be offered free workshops in January 2019 on performance technique including voice projection, marketing and using lighting and sound.
