Nuffield Southampton Youth Theatre will banish away those post-Christmas blues with a new take on Shakespeare’s classic comedy Twelfth Night which they will bring to musical life! Directed by Liam Gifford and performed and designed by members of the Nuffield Southampton Youth Theatre, the production runs in the Studio at NST City from Thursday 23rd until Saturday 25th January.
“If music be the food of love, play on. Give me excess of it”
Viola is washed ashore, separated from her twin brother Sebastian after their ship is wrecked.
Forced to step out into the land of Illyria alone, she discovers in this strange place no one is quite what they claim to be. So begins a crazy, complicated tangle of mistaken identity and unrequited love. But in Illyria, love’s true course does not run smoothly.
Director Liam Gifford said, “Nuffield Southampton Youth Theatre return to staging one of Shakespeare’s plays with Tweflth Night which will be in keeping with our long tradition of putting our own stamp on the Bard’s plays. After our successful production of Much Ado About Nothing in 2018, we have once again given ourselves the challenge of ensuring that our production has lots to say to our audience. With the pertinent themes of deception, love and identity in Tweflth Night at the forefront of our minds during the rehearsal process, our young cast and design team have worked tirelessly to create an outstanding production which will greatly connect with our audiences.
“This production of Twelfth Night brings together members from across Nuffield Southampton Youth Theatre’s numerous groups, with both long-standing and new youth theatre members working on this production as either performers of designers. For a great number of these young people it will be the first time they will have worked on a Shakespearean text, though it certainly won’t be evident in the performance due to the excellent work they have put in to this production.”
As well as hosting numerous productions throughout the year, Nuffield Southampton Youth Theatre offers any young person aged 5-25 years a range of workshops and experiences from all levels of
experience; from longstanding performers to those looking to get in to theatre for the very first time.
