A Musical Double Bill

Friday 30th November 7:00pm at NST Campus Studio

Books and Lyrics by ANDREW FISHER

Directed by SIMON GREIFF

Performers from the University of Southampton Music Department are proud to present songs from ALPHABET SOUP, a new musical comedy cabaret, which is a loose re-telling of The Elixir of Love by Donizetti, and features toe tapping tunes, witty lyrics and some genuinely moving moments.

A bookshop holds a launch event for a new self-help bestseller that guarantees its readers to find romance.  How will it impact on the lives of the people who work there, who are variously very ready, or very reluctant, to find love?

ALPHABET SOUP forms part of a music theatre double bill of exciting new writing by Andrew Fisher and will be performed alongside GIRL IN A CRISIS. Following its London debut, this new jazzy one-woman musical tells a painfully funny story about growing up … or not, and will star Olivier Award-winning actress Lorna Want (West End credits include Beautiful, Parade, Evita, The Fantasticks). The shows title song was shortlisted for the Stiles & Drewe New Song Prize at the Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year.

Flic is in a permanent state of crisis. A single, out-of-work actress, she survives by waiting tables, going home in the evenings to her manipulative cat, Miss Fluffington, and at weekends attending the weddings of her smug friends, alone. Worst of all, she dreads that she will soon be turning thirty. Thirty! Insufferable. She is horrified to learn that her perfect younger sister is getting married. Weakling! Will she be able to overcome her reluctance to find a date, or even love by the time of the wedding…?
