    Improvisation for Adult Beginners

    6 Nov - 4 Dec (5-week course) at NST City

    Wednesdays 7.30pm- 9.00pm

    £75 for the course, to be booked in advance

    Over five weeks we will explore characters and the situations they find themselves in through improvising scenes together.  We will learn and apply the core principles of improvisation using accepting, building, listening, being ok with making mistakes and avoiding blocking to a wide range of scenarios.  

    The sessions will take an explorative and collaborative approach in a supportive and inclusive environment. 

    You will make things up that surprise even yourself!

    If you’ve ever wanted to give improvisation a go then this is for you!  You’ll gain an insight into the skills required for improvisation as well as improving your confidence in trying something new.

    No experience is necessary. 

    Olivia Murphy is a highly skilled and experienced teacher with over 10 years of working in secondary and primary schools, youth theatres and community settings.  She has a post graduate certificate in the Advanced Teaching of Shakespeare which was the first year of a three year partnership between the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Nuffield Theatre and Bitterne Park School which she led and managed as a whole school initiative recruiting six other schools in the Learning and Performance Network which focused on active approaches to teaching Shakespeare.  Recently Olivia has formed her own company, Olivia Murphy Actors Company and currently delivers workshops to adults with learning disabilities, play readings in care homes as well as workshops to children and young people.  Her workshops are designed to explore drama in a supportive and inclusive environment whilst enhancing mental well being. 

    After her degree in Drama and Theatre Studies at University of Surrey, Roehampton, Olivia trained as an actor at the London Academy of Performing Arts.  Acting work in TIE productions followed as well as performing in and producing a production of ‘Feiffer’s People’ at The Old Red Lion, Islington.  More recently Olivia has performed in productions at The Egg Theatre in Bath, The Rondo Theatre in Bath and Theatre Royal Bath.  She has also worked on screen for independent film companies as well as Screenology in Bristol.
