Is Eva fighting? Or is she dying?
What happens when a young woman refuses food. Is it body dysmorphia? Is it a sacrifice? And who is the woman who enters her life and what is her role?
A mother and daughter battle over her refusal to eat in this powerful one-act play until a mysterious stranger appears to solve the issue and resolve the situation.
The spiritual, psychological, societal and even the supernatural impacts of fasting are examined in this play, which looks our growing concerns about food and food production in the Western world.
‘The Fasting Girl’ was a recognised Victorian phenomenon; young women gained fame by not eating and were viewed as either saints or tricksters.
Presented as a rehearsed reading by 2TimeTheatre as part of their New Projects evening at NST City Studio. Writer Rachel O’Neill’s previous play, Tilly and the Spitfires, was staged as part of the Make It SO Season 2018.
